RAID is basically meant to protect data in the case of a drive failure. However, not all RAID levels provide redundancy. Trem RAID was first to occur in 1988 in the technical report “A Case for Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID),” by David Patterson, Randy Katz, and Garth A. Gibson, they said that RAID array could be more reliable than any other disk drive.
